NORTH READING — The Fire Station Building Committee voted to test three configurations of 97 Main Street as a potential fire station. Chair Ms. Abby Hurlbut reported that 86 Main Street has been sold and that the new owner of 97 Main Street is interested in the adjacent 50 Winter Street property.

The committee voted 8-1, with Mr. Nick Masse opposed, to test the site using the entire Winter Street frontage with isolated emergency access. A second scenario with secondary Winter Street access and public parking farther from the property line, amended by Fire Chief Don Stats to specify isolated fire department access, passed unanimously.

A third test fit incorporating 50 Winter Street with isolated emergency access also passed 8-1, with Masse opposed. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for March 5 at 6 p.m.
