NORTH READING — The Special Committee to Review By-Laws began work on recodifying the town's general by-laws. Director of Public Services Lillian Hartman, Town Clerk Susan Duplin, and Building Commissioner Gerard Noel reviewed current by-laws in Word format and identified three categories of potential recommendations: clarifications to language, including spelling corrections and modernized word choice; recommendations to address inconsistent or inactive rules; and substantial updates, including fee reviews and staff-recommended changes to overnight parking rules, burial notices, and construction bond requirements. The committee, charged with issuing its report to the Select Board around August 1, 2026, will schedule its next meeting via email.
