NORTH READING — Fire Station Building Committee decided to pursue 97 Main Street as its fire station site. Member Todd Woekel raised concerns about site proximity to wetlands and stormwater management challenges; architect Rebecca Hopkins at Tecton indicated such concerns could be overcome through further investigation and additional evaluations. Alternative sites at 86 and 84 Main Street were discussed, but the committee noted the 84 Main Street owner has been unreachable and that property would be necessary for the other option to work.
The committee expects an update from the 97 Main Street owner within a few weeks, with the next meeting scheduled for March 31 at 5 p.m.
