NORTH READING — Community Planning Commission backed the Central Street sidewalk project despite divided property owner views. The commission declined to recommend withdrawal of the Department of Public Works' $200,000 capital request, allowing the town to pursue up to $1 million in state grant funding through Safe Routes to School and Complete Streets programs. Among directly affected property owners, 16 opposed while 17 supported the proposal.

The commission also voted unanimously to endorse 70 Main Street site plans.
