North Reading Select Board reached consensus on four firefighter positions for half of FY2027. Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto presented a revised municipal budget deficit of $212,334 after reconciliation items. Fire Chief Donald Stats reviewed the plan to add four firefighter positions, the last of twelve positions added over the past several years.
The Board discussed the impact of funding the positions for a full year versus half the year, and reached consensus to fund them for half of FY2027, reducing the deficit to approximately $15,000. Finance Director Laurianne Galvin suggested using ambulance receipts to cover the remaining deficit; Galvin and Gilleberto agreed to explore the option.
