North Reading's Select Board heard FY 2027 budget presentations revealing a $758,000 to $798,000 structural deficit and decided to remove an $800,000 Senior Center lease placeholder from the budget, shifting instead to interim programming supported by a new 19-hour assistant position.

North Reading's Select Board heard FY 2027 budget presentations revealing a $758,000 to $798,000 structural deficit and decided to remove an $800,000 Senior Center lease placeholder from the budget, shifting instead to interim programming supported by a new 19-hour assistant position. Director of Public Services Lillian Hartman evaluated three proposals for Senior Center relocation and found none met essential needs for space or parking; her recommendation to continue discussions or issue a new RFP was supported by the Council on Aging. The Board unanimously approved Timothy Burgess Day and reappointed Lee Atlas to the Board of Registrars.

Multiple budget workshops are scheduled to address the fiscal gap.
