Youth Services Director Hire Frozen Amid $760K Budget Deficit

North Reading freezes Youth Services Director hiring over $760K budget gap.

DocumentCenter · Meeting of March 3, 2026

North Reading freezes Youth Services Director hiring over $760K budget gap. Select Board Liaison Catherine Morrin reported the Town Administrator was instructed not to fill vacant positions including Parks and Recreation administrative assistant and DPW GIS specialist roles until budget balance is achieved. The committee reviewed a Youth Services Report from Lil Hartman, Director of Public Services, documenting Youth Services reached over 400 students in the first five months of 2025 through Reality Fairs and teen jobs nights.

The committee agreed to reconvene in April to assess the situation as the budget picture evolves.
